The Heirloom Bathroom
When these empty nesters purchased their home, they knew the dated main bathroom was one space they truly wanted to make their own. The old pink tile and tired tub no longer matched the next chapter of life they were stepping into. With the children grown and the house finally a little quieter, they chose to create something they had always dreamed of: a timeless bathroom centered around a restored claw foot tub made for long, relaxing evening baths.
The result is The Heirloom Bath—a warm and elevated space layered with wood wainscoting, traditional wallpaper, and classic old-house charm. What was once outdated is now a beautiful retreat that feels personal, restful, and perfectly suited for this season of life.
How did you turn this dated bathroom into something that felt so timeless and personal?
We focused on the details that mattered most to the homeowners. The blue wainscoting was a must, so we built the room around that, added traditional wallpaper that felt true to an early 1900s home, and created custom recessed shelves for candles and little collected pieces. The restored claw foot tub became the centerpiece—especially because the husband had always dreamed of having a space made for long, relaxing baths.
Was there one feature that really drove the design of this bathroom?
The claw foot tub was definitely a major part of the vision, because the husband had always wanted a space where he could enjoy long evening baths. From there, we layered in the blue wainscoting, traditional wallpaper, and custom built-in shelving to make the whole room feel warm, classic, and true to the home’s age.
Did the homeowners themselves influence how special this bathroom became?
Absolutely. They were the kind of homeowners you instantly root for—the truly good-hearted kind who made us want to go the extra mile. Because they cared so deeply about the home and were such special people to work with, we wanted this bathroom to feel especially meaningful, personal, and full of heart.
