Breathing New Life into a Forgotten Bungalow

What was once an abandoned bungalow with a leaky roof, water damage, and years of neglect has now been given a second chance—and it turned out absolutely perfect. While most would have chosen demolition, we recognized the beauty hidden within its 1920s bones. Over 100 years old, this home has been transformed into something truly extraordinary. The restored hardwood floors, thoughtful design details that highlight its vintage charm, and a vibe that balances cozy and bougie make it shine. It didn’t just become livable—it became a retreat, a place where history and elegance collide in the most breathtaking way. This forgotten gem has officially found its glow again.

Was there anything that you found difficult during this remodel?

Oh yes—water damage was our biggest challenge by far. Over the years, vines had crept up and grown right into the roof shingles, creating the perfect pathway for water to pour in. That slow leak turned into serious structural problems. We ended up rebuilding entire sections of flooring, repairing joists, and even reconstructing exterior walls and ceiling joists—all because of that one issue. It was tough work, but once everything was repaired and made solid again, we knew the house finally had the strong foundation it deserved for its second chance at life.

What was your favorite part about this bungalow?

Hands down—the hardwood floors! Every single room had this gorgeous inlaid “rug-like” outline crafted right into the wood. It’s such an incredible detail, like the house itself was dressed up with custom area rugs, only made of oak and heart pine. You can just feel the love and care that went into the original craftsmanship over 100 years ago. It’s details like these that remind us why saving old homes is so worth it—they were built with heart, and that kind of beauty just can’t be replicated today.
